Infused by the experiences and history of its Black population, the Village continues to serve as a creative hub that engages with different traditions and supports emerging talent. The Brixton Village team works hard to offer a rich program for everyone that fosters new ideas and conversations, and builds memorable shared experiences through educational and engaging events, whilst reflecting the vibrancy and history of the community and the neighbourhood.

Music is a fundamental part of Brixton’s identity and in the Village you will experience weekly performers stationed around the market while you eat, shop, drink, dance or simply enjoy the tunes. The music programme which pays respect to Brixton’s deep-rooted music heritage is curated by Brixton Village Lates, a husband and wife duo who also DJ together as the Handson Family, and have been promoting Black music for more than two decades. Most events are free and the line-up is always multicultural and multi-genre, from funk and disco to hip hop, rare groove to afrobeat.

During summer months there are regular all day takeovers in the Village Courtyard, creating a space to gather, listen, dance and enjoy music from morning to night
